ABOUT CANIGAO ISLAND
We all had been waiting for this season in the Philippines. SUMMER! Especially the chikitings out there. 2 months no classes. YEY! By now, many are planning and are very excited for their coming out of town getaways. Include Canigao Island in your summer list guys.
Canigao Island paradise that can be found on the outskirts of the small town of Matalom, Leyte. It is a few hours drive from Tacloban City. Been to this Island several times na. Nothing has changed. Still perfect for a getaway. The beautiful white sand beach with crystal clear waters. The Island is not so big that you can actually walk around it for like 20mins.
THINGS TO DO
Setup a tent below the trees.
They have space rental for the tent. 100 pesos each tent.
Rent also a cottage for only 500 daytour 700 overnight.
Checkout time is around 9am. (But can extend until 12noon. Just request. 😉 )
You can also cook your own food inside your cottages.
Just bring your own cooking set.
The Island is well maintained by the government.
I saw some workers cleaning the area in the morning.
Tour around the Island
The Island is not so big that you can actually walk around it for like 20mins.
At the other side of the Island, You’ll see rock formations.
Other tourists pick shellfish for lunch.

We enjoyed our time in Canigao and plan on going back soon. Though we always make sure to visit this island atleast once a year.
It was indeed a memorable one.

HOW TO GET THERE
The Island is very travel friendly. From Tacloban City downtown area, go to Abucay Bus Terminal, Take a ride to Matalom, Leyte which is 3 hours ride away from Tacloban. Once in Matalom port, it takes 20 mins pumpboat ride going to the Island.
TIPS FOR YOUR CANIGAO ISLAND TRIP
-Don’t worry booking in advance. The pumpboat going to the Island has 100 capacity boat. You wont miss one.
-Refrain going there On May 27, 28. It is their Fiesta. For sure, the Island is very crowded.
-To fully enjoy its beauty is to travel and stay overnight on weekdays where it is less crowded.
-Bring life jacket, aqua shoes and flippers.
-Sunblock and Sunscreen
-Bring your own cooking set
-Bring your sleeping bags and tents with you. To save extra money.
-Camera with wide angle lens to capture the stunning landscape
-Drone to capture the other perspective view from above
-Make sure to bring your own food and drinks before jumping off to the boat.
There is a small canteen on the island, they have snacks, drinks and food fresh fish and B-B-Q but depends on the availability.
There is a wide griller for everyone. Cook your food early.
-Electricity is not available. Bring your flashlights and power banks with you.
RATES AND FEES
40 pesos each entrance fee for the adult
65 pesos each for the boat (The boat has a minimum of 25 passengers per travel)
It’s either “Patience is a virtue” or “Time is gold.”
Fees are paid at the booth area near the port going to the Island.
